A glossary of Peace Corps terms and Spanish words

I understand that many of you may not be conversant in Peacecorpsese or Spanish, so the following is a list of words and phrases.

APCD – Assistant Peace Corps Director
CD – Country Director
COS – Close of Service, when you complete your service
ET – Early Termination, when you complete your service before it is scheduled to end
HCNHost Country National, a citizen of your host country
Host Country – the country in which the PCV serves
NGO – Nongovernmental Organization
PC – Peace Corps
PCMO – Peace Corps Medical Officer
PCT – Peace Corps Trainee, after staging and before active service
PCV – Peace Corps Volunteer, an active volunteer serving in country
PST – Pre-Service Training, the first 9 − 12 weeks (generally) in-country
RPCV – Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, a volunteer who has COS’d
Staging – when the applicants gather in a major American city before departing for their host country
